Power Skating
If you can’t skate, you can’t play
High-level instruction focusing on advanced techniques, balance, stride and recovery, edge control and agility. These are not Learn to Skate classes. These programs are designed to FURTHER ENHANCE the hockey player’s skating ability.
PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE RECEIVED FORMAL SKATING INSTRUCTION AND GRADUATED FROM A LEARN TO SKATE PROGRAM PRIOR TO TAKING THESE CLASSES.
Power Skating Level 1 minimum skill requirements:
–Parallel stops both left and right
-1 foot glides on flats, left and right, forwards and backwards
-1 foot glides on curves, inside and outside edges, left and right
-Forward to backward pivot turns, left and right
-Backward skating with correct technique and speed
-1 foot glides on flats, left and right, backwards
Power Skating Level 2 minimum skill requirements:
-Must parallel stop left and right and perform fast crossover starts
-Must skate backwards with speed and glide on 1 foot left and right with control
-Must skate backwards on curve, glide on 1 foot, left and right, inside and outside edges
-Forwards crossovers with correct technique
-Tight turns with speed and control, correct technique
-Pivots left and right with speed and control
-Knowledge of backwards crossovers
